An independent youth summer hockey league built on development, competition, and the love of the game — right here in Prince Albert.
The PAYHL started the way the best things usually do — because somebody couldn't wait. When the winter season wrapped up in the spring of 2025, founder Cole Massey wasn't ready to put hockey away for the year — not with twin boys itching to get back on the ice. So that April he booked four scrimmages: pinnies on, sticks in the middle, drop the puck, play a real game.
The demand was instant. Four casual skates became something bigger almost overnight — and within 30 days of that first scrimmage, the PAYHL had drafted 64 players, lined up four local sponsors to outfit them in real jerseys and socks, and suddenly looked like the real thing. That first season ran 12 games from late May to late July, capped by a one-day playoff where the Supplement World Warriors were crowned the first champions in league history.
One year later, we've doubled — 128 players, two divisions, and the first all-girls team in PAYHL history. We've built a following that pulls players from as far north as La Ronge, where a group of families makes the two-plus-hour drive to Prince Albert on game days, no matter the time. And we're just getting started.
Music rolling on every whistle and a live announcer calling out goals and assists. We bring real-rink energy so every player feels like a star.
Skill-based line matching and timed shifts mean every kid gets equal ice and a fair shot — games stay close, competitive, and fun.
No icings, so the play never stops — and penalties become penalty shots, chasers and all, for maximum excitement.
Full hockey rules teach younger players offsides early and keep older players sharp for winter. Fun first — but they leave better than they came.
Four spring scrimmages explode into a 64-player league with four sponsors and a full 12-game season. The Supplement World Warriors are crowned our first champions.
128 players, two divisions, and the first all-girls team in PAYHL history — the Max Power squad — hit the ice.
We aim to grow again and bring back full winter age groups, opening the game to even more young players across the north.
A true summer-hockey home for the north — and bigger still: Prince Albert facing off against other cities under PAYHL rules, plus Spring & Summer Classic tournaments that bring our fast, fun brand of hockey to teams everywhere.
Every game has a winner and a loser — but at the PAYHL, every kid leaves with a smile, and better than when they showed up. I've never heard a negative review from a single player, and I'll choose their development over everything, every time.
Within 30 days of our first scrimmage, four local supporters stepped up to outfit our players in real jerseys and socks. We wouldn't be here without them — and each lent their name to a team on the ice.
Players, coaches, volunteers, and sponsors — there's a place for everyone in the PAYHL. Come be part of summer hockey in the heart of the north.
Our divisions are built around skill-based line matching, so every player competes with and against their level. In 2026 we proudly iced the first all-girls team in PAYHL history — the Max Power squad.
Looking ahead to 2027: we're aiming to grow again and bring back full winter age groups, opening the game to even more young players across the north.
